About
I have worked as a videojournalist since 1987 for broadcast TV in the UK, starting by filming secretly for a documentary about the effects of the French nuclear testing on the Tahitians and then continuing for TV News from 1988 and onwards as the Berlin Wall fell and the Soviet Empire ended. My book on Practising Videojournalism is the result of interviews with many of the UK’s pioneer VJs who risked their lives during those days when Eastern Europe and the USSR were risky and then later in many of the wars and conflicts worldwide. Why did I write the book? As a result of teaching in 3 UK universities on broadcast journalism and new media and realising that students did want to know about the past and also to have a book that inspired them and encouraged them to go out and film. Picking up a video camera has never been easier- it depends what you do with it. I now train for various Foundations mainly in Africa, still work as a VJ for BBC World TV and continue to write.
